Snow chains are durable metal traction devices fitted around your vehicle’s tyres to provide dependable grip on snow and ice. We offer the high-quality IDEAL snow chains range, including standard car snow chains, low-profile snow chains for vehicles with restricted clearance, and heavy-duty snow chains for SUVs and vans. Our standard IDEAL car chains use strong 9mm links, while slimmer 7mm options are available where there is limited space between the tyre, wheel arch and suspension. For larger and heavier vehicles, IDEAL TR snow chains feature robust 16mm chain with 4.5mm links for demanding winter conditions. Every snow chain in our range complies with the EN 16662-1 European standard and is suitable for winter driving throughout Europe, including travel through areas covered by France’s B26 and B58 winter-equipment signs, subject to local regulations and your vehicle manufacturer’s guidance.
Chains by Vehicle Type
We offer 2 standard chain products – these are Ideal ABS (for cars) and Ideal TR (for heavy SUVs and Vans). Smaller or Midsized SUVs or crossovers can use the 9mm Ideal ABS chain and heavier vehicles should use the heavy duty 16mm Ideal TR chains. In all cases, you should always check your vehicle manufacturers guidance corresponding to the appropriate fitted tyre size, to determine if chains are suitable.

FAQ’s
Unused products can be returned to us within 14 days of delivery for a full refund or exchange. (Taking chains or socks on a journey where they might be needed or legally required is considered use). Products and packaging must be in the same good condition that they were supplied in. Please quote your name, address and order number and the new product part number required for exchange or request to refund in with your return and ideally inform us before they are returned and return them using a tracible delivery service. Yes, all of the products that we sell (chains and socks) are legal for use in the UK and Europe where snow chain signs are shown. With one caveat: In Austria, whilst you can use socks, you are still required to have metal chains that are ready to use where the snow chain sign is shown.
Snow socks and chains should be fitted to all drive wheels. If you have a 2 wheel drive vehicle you need two socks, four wheel drive vehicles need four socks. Our Snow socks and chains are all sold in pairs, so if you order one product/set, you get two socks or chains included.
